Have you ever wondered which cat is the oldest in the world? This is a title that can change from time to time, and the Guinness Book usually takes into account pets that are still alive to determine the record. Recently, the Book of Records gained a new record holder for oldest cat in the world - which is actually a kitten of about 27 years old with a scaly cat color pattern. What is the oldest cat in the world?

The title of the world's oldest cat is now held by UK resident Flossie. She is about to turn 27, and broke the record on November 24, 2022 while she was still 26 years and 316 days old. That cat age would be equivalent to 120 human years, to give you an idea.

Fossie was a street cat who was born in 1995 and was adopted for the first time in the same year. However, her first guardians passed away around 2005, and since then she has passed through different homes. The last guardian handed her over to the care of Cats Protection, a British charity famous for caring for cats, in August 2022. When checking the animal's historical records, the charityrealized that Flossie was almost 27 years old.

A new adoption in old age

Despite the uncertain future, the record-breaking kitten was able to find a new home and now lives with guardian Vicki Green, an executive assistant experienced in caring for elderly cats. Most people don't like to adopt older kittens, but luckily Flossie managed this feat: "Our new life together already feels like a home for Flossie, which makes me very happy. I knew it from the beginningI knew I was a special cat, but I didn't realize I'd be sharing my home with a world record holder," Vicki told the Guinness Book in an interview.
